At its core, the purpose of Help4Haiti's activities is to ease the suffering of the Haitian people, thereby, helping them to rebuild their lives and communities.

Medical missions

  • Twice a year, we bring medical and surgical teams to Gonaives to conduct free clinics, perform surgeries and train local medical professionals.
  • In May 2011, we inaugurated and officially opened the first medical clinic actually designed and built to be a clinic in Gonaives: Clinique St. Basile le Grand.

Equipment

  • We supply the medications, equipment, and support for the salaries of the staff of Clinique St. Basile le Grand.
  • We ship donated equipment to the existing temporary hospital and are committed to equipping the new hospital when it is completed a few years from now. In January 2011, for example, we shipped and installed Gonaives' first X-ray machine since the 2008 hurricanes, using a forty foot shipping container. In addition, we provided the hospital's anesthesia machines and the majority of its remaining equipment and supplies immediately after the destruction of the old hospital in 2004, and again in 2008.
  • We are providing prosthetic artificial limbs for the many amputees of the earthquake and other causes. We are installing a fabrication lab for use by prosthetists to manufacture and fit prosthetic limbs in the country, rather than having to measure the patients and return to the U. S. for fabrication, then return again to Haiti for fitting.

Epidemics

  • We have purchased 30 water filters for the school, church and individual families to help protect them from the cholera epidemic which began in the summer of 2010 and killed approximately 2500 people in its first year.
.....................................................................................................................

Malnutrition

  • We are partnering with a supplier of nutritional sources for malnourished children.

Training and Education

  • We ship books and supplies to the nursing school, which will graduate its first class of 60 four year trained nurses in the summer of 2011.
  • We continue our ongoing liaison with them for support with equipment and training.
